Axial3D Launches Collaboration to Expand Access to Patient-Specific 3D Models for MRI-based Imaging

2nd December 2024

Belfast, UK, and Chicago, IL – December 2, 2024 – Axial3D, a leader in creating AI-powered 3D medical imaging algorithms and 3D solutions is pleased to announce a formal collaboration agreement with GE HealthCare, a global innovator in medical technology, pharmaceutical diagnostics, and digital solutions.  This collaboration marks a major advancement in the enhancement of MR imaging to create 3D patient-specific models, enabling healthcare professionals to better visualize and communicate patient anatomy to support patient education and team understanding.

Through this collaboration, GE HealthCare’s MR customers will gain access to a new set of advanced 3D modeling services, through a combination of GE HealthCare’s unique oZTEo bone imaging application with Axial3D’s AI-powered segmentation platform, Axial3D INSIGHT™. This combination enables the creation of radiation-free 3D visualizations and 3D-printed anatomical models potentially reducing the need for an additional CT scan. After a patient undergoes an MR scan using the oZTEo sequence, the imaging data is processed through Axial3D’s AI-powered segmentation algorithms, automatically transforming the scans into patient-specific 3D models. These models can then be easily ordered through Axial3D INSIGHT™, providing medical teams with additional tools to use to facilitate informed consent, provide a focal point for team discussions, and improve communications across the care pathway.  This bespoke capability can reduce the need for costly investments in 3D printing equipment, software, and personnel. This collaboration makes 3D visualizations and 3D printed anatomical models more accessible to healthcare professionals, improving communication in clinical decision-making and patient-centric education.

“We are excited to expand our collaboration with GE HealthCare and bring our innovative 3D modeling solutions to a broader audience,” said Roger Johnston, CEO of Axial3D. “This collaboration reinforces our mission to make patient-specific care routine and scalable. With GE HealthCare’s oZTEo scanning technology and our AI-driven segmentation, medical professionals can seamlessly receive 3D models from their MR images that significantly enhance patient education and clinical communication.”

“Our collaboration with Axial3D aligns with our goal of advancing precision healthcare,” said Maggie Fung, Director of Musculoskeletal MR, GE HealthCare. “By integrating Axial3D’s powerful 3D modeling capabilities with our MR scanning technology, we are offering our customers a new level of capability to enhance the patient experience through better understanding of their unique situation, ultimately helping to improve patient outcomes.”

Through this agreement, Axial3D’s 3D anatomical models are now available to a global network of GE HealthCare MR customers, further advancing the adoption of 3D modelling in clinical practice.

Both Axial3D and GE HealthCare will be exhibiting at RSNA 2024, where they will be available to discuss their collaboration and the new commercial offering of patient-specific 3D models for MR imaging customers.
